Джон (Carne, 1789-1844) — английский писатель, много путешествовавший по Востоку и в Европе; написал: "Tales of the West" (1828); "Stratton Hill, a tale of the civil war" (1829); "Recollections of Travels in the East" (1830); "The Exiles of Palestine, a tale" (1831); "Letters from Switzerland and Italy" (1 8 34); "Lives of eminent missionaries" (1833). Племянница его, Елизавета Катерина К. (1817-1873), известная своею благотворительностью, основала несколько школ и музеев; написала: "Three Months' rest at Pau in the Winter and Spring of 1859" (под псевдон. Джон Алтрайд Виттиттерли, 1860); "Country Towns and the place they fill in modern civilisation" (1868); "England's three wards" (1871); "The Realm of Truth" (1873).
