профессор математики в университетском колледже в Ливерпуле. С 1884 г. — в
Кембридже, как в Trinity College, так и в университете. Учено-литературная
деятельность Ф. началась с 1880 г. статьями "Vortex-motion in viscous fluids"
("The Messenger of Mathematics", IX) и
("The
Quarterly Journal of pure and applied Mathematics", XVII). Из последующих его
работ, весьма многочисленных, назовем следующие "Symm. function of the roots of
